CAR THINGS SPOTIFY UPDATE
The Car Thing is just limited - even though Spotify plans to update it - and it’s no longer “free.” I’d recommend really considering whether it’s worth it before you sign up to buy one. In our hands-on with the Car Thing, the included voice controls (“Hey Spotify) were helpful, but that might not matter if your built-in stereo does the same thing. The Car Thing is also totally reliant on your phone’s Bluetooth, USB, or auxiliary cable connection to your car, which basically makes the device a glorified Spotify remote.
CAR THINGS SPOTIFY BLUETOOTH
It connects to your phone over Bluetooth and uses a phone’s internet connection to stream and control playback on songs and podcasts from Spotify’s library. You can sign up for the waiting list to get the 80 device at no charge while supplies last.
CAR THINGS SPOTIFY FREE
What is free though, at least for now, is the Car Thing itself. The Car Thing is not a standalone Spotify device. The Spotify Car Thing does require your phone for its WiFi or mobile connection in order to work, and you’ll also need to pay for a Spotify Premium subscription no free rides here. The Car Thing comes with a selection of mounts for your car. Also, at its new $79.99 price, it’s worth re-examining what the Car Thing can do. While Spotify will let anyone with an account sign up for its waitlist, whether free or premium, you do still need a premium account to actually use the device. The catch is that now the streaming service’s previously invite-only product is $79.99 when it used to be free with paid shipping and handling. Spotify is making it easier to get ahold of its first hardware device, the Car Thing, by opening up a waitlist to purchase the device that anyone can join starting today. By working their way into everyday car radio, the Car Thing would mean more and more users exclusively using Spotify and taking attention off satellite radio.
The Car Thing’s outreach is intended to push past Spotify’s current members and extend the appeal to those with older radios and cars without touch screen capabilities.Īs Spotify grows in prominence, they continue to branch out by developing new ways to try and dominate all other streaming services. The setup and layout are similar to that of a SiriusXM radio but with only Spotify content, playlists and libraries. The new device comes with a dash mount, vent mount and CD mount.
E ager users have been enticed by its reduced price as well as its ability to further accessorize their cars. T he online reception has been very mixed, many are chiming in to express their thoughts about the Car Thing ’s necessity or lack thereof. One could assume that this release strategy is being used to scope out the number of interested buyers. It is set to retail at 79.99 USD when it is released to the entire public. Since the first round of Car Things were released to the first few listeners who sign ed up to receive one, you currently must be put on a waiting list to be notified when you can acquire your own. Premium members only hav e to pay fo r the 6.99 USD shipping and handling costs. As of now, Spotify is offering Car Things for “free” for a limited time. In order to set it up, you first must connect Car Thing to power with USB, then connect your phone to Car Thing using Bluetooth and finally connect your phone to your car stereo using either Bluetooth, AUX or US B.Ĭar Thing s are only available for Spotify Premium users which is likely a way to pull in more users.
CAR THINGS SPOTIFY ANDROID
It is compatible with AUX, Blu etooth, Apple Car P lay and Android Auto. 8 inches in width, with four speakers and basic navigation controls and m uch like other well-known digital assistants, the Car Thing can be activated by saying “Hey, Spotify.” With both options for hands-on and hands-free, the device is meant to optimize the Spotify listening experience in your car. What is a Car Thing? According to Spotify, the gadget is a smart player designed to bring the streaming service directly to your car. This new product comes as a surprise for many of Spotify’s users–many confused about the device’s purpose and many excited to get their hands on on e of their own. Seemingly out of nowhere, Spotify announced their new p roduct named Car Thing, on Apr il 13.
